Cruisin’ Pallooza was a great event! If you’ve never been, keep an eye out for it next year. We played on Sunday, which was Bike Day (the other days emphasize classic cars). Sponsored by 99.1 The Whale, and put on at the Broome County Fairgrounds in Whitney Point. We had a gorgeous day and loved rocking out with all the bikers as well as Leann and Wally and the rest of the staff from The Whale! Can’t wait to rock out with Wally and the biker crowd again at Bike Night in Greene on July 26. See ya then!

On The Road
The day after our surprise gig at the Number 5, we were up early (ok, early for musicians! especially for a Saturday!) and on the road to a massive party/music fest in Hazleton, PA. It was a gorgeous day for the event–the sun was shining, the breeze was blowing, and the birds were–well, you couldn’t really hear the birds with all the rockin’ out that was happening. But there were people of all ages, some setting up tents in the adjacent field, as well as plenty of food and drinks, and even a dog named Mojo running around. It was a jam-band-kind-of-crowd, so we played extended (and extra awesome, if we do say so ourselves, LOL) versions of several tunes, including some new material we’d learned off of Santana Live at the Fillmore 1968 that we’d learned specifically for the occasion (Chunk-a-Funk and Conquistadore Rides Again). Actually, if you want to hear the whole set, you can listen to it here. Here’s what we played:
Surprise Gig at the Number 5
When we say “surprise gig”, we aren’t kidding… and believe it or not, we were as surprised as anyone! Let us explain: It was a Friday evening. We were sitting around the table sharing a pizza and getting ready to practice for our gig coming up the next day in Hazleton, PA, when the phone rang… It was our friend Tom saying the Number 5 needed a band to sub *that night*, and were we up for it? You bet we were. We left the pizza on the table, scrambled to make the various arrangements necessary with all of our schedules, and within a couple of hours, Bam! There we were onstage at the Number 5. It was a blast, and we look forward to playing there again–hopefully with a little more notice next time 🙂 It’s a great venue, with a beautiful dance floor, a fun crowd, a warm atmosphere, and a fairly racy painting on the wall facing the band… check out the slideshow below if you don’t know what we’re talking about!
Rocking Out on First Friday at the Cyber
It was a dark and stormy night. Really. Not a great night for the Art Walk, but definitely a great night at the Cyber! In fact, this may have been our favorite gig yet at the Cyber. Yeah, I know, we always say that… but we always feel it! The music-loving crowd, the light shows, the cool stage, the one-of-a-kind atmosphere… It all just adds up to an awesome night. Highlights included Ryan’s “special” lyrics on Folsom Prison, a very psychedelic version of Voodoo Child (with accompanying light show), a Santana-inspired instrumental funk jam towards the end of the first set, the warm reception of our originals, and chatting with the crowd: people had come from as far away as Waverly and Norwich to spend their evening with us, some others–dressed to the nines–stopped in after their prom, and someone else was just dropping by on his way home from a dog-food run, and decided to stay for a while… In short, a diverse and very fun crowd!
Unfortunately, our “band photographer” (Ryan’s wife Lisa) wasn’t able to come, but Dana was able to snap a few pictures when she wasn’t playing. So no shots of Dana, unless some audience members got some…. If *you* happen to have any pictures of us you think we’d like, please e-mail them to us at voodoohighwayband@gmail.com. Don’t be shy; go ahead!
A huge thank you to Jeff, the staff at the Cyber, and everyone who came out on a rainy night to jam out with us!
West Side Music Fest
The West Side Neighborhood Project’s first annual Music Fest was so much fun! It was an absolutely gorgeous day to spend outside with friends and neighbors, and the event itself was a great success. People of all ages were in attendance, enjoying the food and crafts, and rocking out with us. And we even ended up in the local paper (in print and online). We went with a set list of what we hoped would be crowd-pleasers, and judging from the reactions we got both during and afterwards, many agreed with our choices! Tom Egan joined us on harmonica for several songs, and on lead vocals for “Mother Floodin’ Blues” (see The Flood tab, above, for a free download). If you’re wondering what the West Side Neighborhood Project (WSNP) is, it’s a coalition dedicated to bringing together residents, students, business, and landlords from the West Side of Binghamton in order to keep the neighborhood great, and make it even better.

November News
Cubestock was awesome, as always. Thanks so much to the organizers and all the attendees for giving us such a warm reception. We’re only sorry we didn’t get the chance to play “Bad Girl”, as requested! But we’ll play it next year; we promise. And in the meantime, if you don’t want to wait, you can always get it on iTunes, right here….
Next up for us will be a couple of gigs back at the Cyber, after the holidays: Friday, January 6th, and Wednesday, February 15. We’ll also be starting up a regular stint at Chips; stay tuned for details. We’ll be making use of the time between now and then to learn some new material. If there’s a particular song you’d love to hear us do, e-mail us the suggestion and we’ll see if we can get to it.
If you’re looking for a way to add that extra something to your holiday party, consider hiring Voodoo Highway for some great live music! E-mail us at voodoohighwayband@gmail.com to check availability and cost.
Peace, Love, and Rock and Roll,
Voodoo Highway

October News
We just found out that the final count for the money we helped raise at Flood Aid earlier this month was $8,000! How great to raise so much money while having so much fun.
Next up for Voodoo Highway is a gig on Wednesday night (Oct. 26) at the Cyber Cafe in Binghamton, from 8-10. Tom Egan will be joining us on stage at some point to do a couple of songs with us, including “Mother Floodin’ Blues”–a song he originally wrote about the 2006 flood, and then resurrected and updated after the latest one.
And speaking of “Mother Floodin’ Blues”… we have recorded it and made it available for download on this site (click “The Flood” tab, just above). If you like it and want to download it, all we ask is that you make a small donation to the United Way, the Red Cross, or other charity of your choice. (There are links to the United Way and the Red Cross donation pages just below the link to the song.)
See you at the Cyber on Wednesday!
Peace, Love, and Rock and Roll,
Voodoo Highway
